The Emirsultan Hazretleri Tomb is dedicated to Emir Sultan, son-in-law of Yıldırım Bayezid and one of the prominent scholars of his time. Emir Sultan, whose real name was Şemseddin Mehmed Buhari, came to Anatolia from Bukhara, settled in Bursa, and gained great respect among the people due to his spiritual personality. The tomb was built in 1429 by his wife, Hundi Fatma Hatun, after Emir Sultan's death. However, it was severely damaged in the great earthquake of 1795 and was rebuilt by Sultan Selim III. During this reconstruction, the architecture of the tomb largely changed, adopting its current Baroque style. The tomb has an octagonal plan and is covered with a dome. Inside, there are sarcophagi belonging to Emir Sultan and his family. The interior decorations of the tomb are notable for their intricate pen work and beautiful examples of calligraphy. Especially the decorations on the dome and walls reflect the aesthetic understanding of the period. The tomb is an important part of a large complex consisting of the Emirsultan Mosque, an imaret (soup kitchen), a hammam (bathhouse), and a madrasah (religious school).
