The Clock Tower, located on Atatürk Street, known as Heykel, in the center of Bursa, is one of the city's important symbols. In fact, the current tower is the second tower, built in 1904 and completed in 1909. The first clock tower was built in 1876 by the governor of the time, Ahmet Vefik Pasha, but was demolished for an unknown reason. The second tower began construction during the governorship of Reşit Mümtaz Pasha and was completed during the time of Governor Mehmet Tevfik Bey. Built of cut stone, the tower has a hexagonal plan and is five stories high. Each floor has its own unique architectural details. Especially the clock faces and bell mechanism on the upper floors complete the functionality and aesthetics of the tower. At the top of the tower, there is a tughra from the Ottoman period and crescent and star motifs. The Clock Tower has not only shown the time but has also been an important meeting point in Bursa's social and cultural life.
