Story
Lake Ulubat is a freshwater lake of tectonic origin located within the borders of the Karacabey and Mustafakemalpaşa districts of Bursa province. Its average depth is around 2.5 meters, reaching a maximum depth of 10 meters. The surface area of the lake varies seasonally but is approximately 135 square kilometers. Lake Ulubat hosts rich biodiversity, especially due to its location on bird migration routes. In addition to hosting many different bird species throughout the year, it is also an important breeding and feeding ground for endangered species such as the great crested grebe and the pygmy cormorant. Thanks to this feature, it was declared a wetland of international importance under the Ramsar Convention in 1998 and placed under protection. The Gölyazı Peninsula, located around the lake, attracts attention with its historical texture and natural beauty. Ancient ruins and Ottoman-era structures on the peninsula reveal the rich history of the region. Lake Ulubat contributes to the regional economy not only with its natural beauty but also with fishing activities and surrounding agricultural areas.
