Story
Maksem Mosque is an important religious structure from the Ottoman period, situated within the historical fabric of Bursa. Although there are different views regarding the exact construction date and patron of the mosque, the general consensus is that it was built in the late 15th or early 16th century. Some sources suggest that the mosque was built during the reign of Fatih Sultan Mehmet, while others point to a later period. The mosque takes its name from the Maksem district where it is located. Maksem was an important center for water distribution during the Ottoman period, and therefore the mosque played a central role in the social and cultural life of this region. The structure exhibits the characteristics of typical Ottoman mosque architecture. The main prayer area, which has a square plan, is covered with a single dome. The minaret of the mosque is also one of the elegant examples of Ottoman architecture. Although it has undergone various repairs and restorations over time, it has largely managed to preserve its original architectural texture. Especially the repairs carried out in the 19th century and early 20th century played an important role in the mosque's survival to the present day. Maksem Mosque is not just a place of worship, but an important part of Bursa's cultural heritage. Together with the historical structures around it...
