Çimenlik Redoubt is an important military structure located on the Anatolian side of the Dardanelles, at one of its most strategic points, and was built during the Ottoman Empire. It was first constructed as a castle in the mid-15th century, during the reign of Fatih Sultan Mehmet, to ensure the security of the strait. However, the foundations and main structure of the current redoubt were laid in the late 19th century, particularly in the 1890s, following the Ottoman-Russian War, due to the need to strengthen the strait's defenses. During this period, redoubts equipped with modern artillery systems were built, and Çimenlik Redoubt became an important part of this modernization process. Especially during the Çanakkale Naval Battle on March 18, 1915, the cannons in the redoubt showed great resistance against the Allied navies and played a key role in making the strait impassable. The Nusret Mine Layer, located within the redoubt and now used as a museum, is also an important element that changed the course of the Çanakkale War. Maintaining its military importance even after the war, Çimenlik Redoubt was also used by the Turkish Armed Forces during the Republican period. Today, it operates under the Çanakkale Naval Museum Command as a part of the museum complex.
