Hamidiye Bastion was constructed during the Ottoman Empire as one of the strategic defense points of the Dardanelles. During the reign of Abdülhamid II, in the early 1890s, it was designed and completed according to modern defense techniques with the contributions of German engineers. The main purpose of the bastion was to create an effective defense line against enemy ships attempting to pass through the Dardanelles. At the time of its construction, it was equipped with the most advanced artillery systems of the period, supported by strong reinforced concrete structures and underground shelters. Especially during the Çanakkale Naval Battle on March 18, 1915, the cannons and fortified positions of the bastion played a critical role in repelling the attempts of the Allied Powers' navy to cross the Dardanelles. The strategic location and firepower of the bastion inflicted heavy losses on enemy ships, proving that passage by sea was impossible. After the war, Hamidiye Bastion maintained its military importance for some time but eventually lost its function and was abandoned.
