Troy Historical National Park, located in Çanakkale, is an important cultural and natural area that boasts both natural beauty and the ancient city of Troy, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Story
Troy Historical National Park is located within the provincial borders of Çanakkale, near the village of Tevfikiye. Declared a national park in 1996, this area is of great importance not only for its natural beauty but also for hosting the world-renowned ancient city of Troy. Within the national park's boundaries lies the ancient city of Troy, which was the subject of Homer's Iliad and has a history spanning approximately 4000 years. This ancient city reveals the uninterrupted history of the region through nine distinct settlement layers belonging to different periods. These layers, extending from the Bronze Age to the Roman Period, have been brought to light through archaeological excavations. The natural structure of the national park is shaped by the influence of the Mediterranean climate, hosting rich vegetation and diverse wildlife. Pine forests, maquis shrublands, and agricultural areas, in particular, constitute the ecological diversity of the region. Troy Historical National Park plays a critical role in both the preservation of archaeological heritage and the sustainability of the natural environment. Visitors can explore the ruins of the ancient city, as well as engage in activities such as hiking and birdwatching amidst the natural beauty offered by the national park.
