Story
The Murat Hüdavendigâr Mosque is a historical structure located in the center of Çorum, dating back to the Ottoman period. Although there is no definitive information about the exact construction date and patron of the mosque, it is believed to date back to the late 14th or early 15th century, considering its architectural features and the general construction practices of the era. While it is assumed to have taken its name from Murad I, the third Sultan of the Ottoman Empire, no conclusive document has been found to support this. The structure generally has a simple architecture and bears the characteristic features of early Ottoman mosques. It is estimated to have been built with a rectangular plan, either with a single dome or a wooden roof. Its walls were constructed using a mixed technique of rubble stone and brick, and the interior was typically adorned with plaster or kalem işi (pen work) decorations. The mosque has undergone various repairs over time and may have experienced some changes from its original state. Particularly, restorations carried out during the Republican era played a significant role in its preservation to the present day. For many years, the mosque served as a place of worship in its neighborhood and was an important part of the surrounding social life. It remains open for worship today.
