Örenyeri is located in Alacahöyük, one of the oldest and most important settlements in Anatolia, within the Alacahöyük district of Çorum province. This area is particularly known as a key center in the development of the Hittite Civilization. Although the first traces of settlement date back to the Chalcolithic Age, Alacahöyük's true significance emerged during the Early Bronze Age and the Hittite Empire period. Excavations have revealed royal tombs from the Early Bronze Age and artifacts made of precious metals such as gold, silver, and bronze found in these tombs, showcasing the art and craftsmanship of the period. Among these artifacts, symbolic objects such as sun disks, deer, and bull statues are noteworthy. During the Hittite period, Alacahöyük, along with Hattusa, became one of the empire's important religious and administrative centers. Especially the sphinxes and reliefs at the entrance gate present some of the finest examples of Hittite art and architecture. These reliefs depict gods, kings, and religious ceremonies.
