Story
Cleopatra Antique Pools are located among the ruins of the ancient city of Hierapolis in Pamukkale, Denizli. These pools were built over Roman baths and an agora that were destroyed by earthquakes and filled with thermal waters over centuries. Ancient columns and marble fragments still visible on the bottom and around the pool give visitors a sense of past grandeur. According to legend, it is believed that the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra also swam in these healing waters, which gave the pools their name. The pool's water is enriched with the same minerals that form Pamukkale's famous travertines and remains at a temperature of approximately 36-38°C throughout the year. These thermal waters are thought to be beneficial for ailments such as rheumatism, skin diseases, and circulatory disorders. The ancient pool formed naturally after the destruction of Hierapolis by earthquakes and gradually became a popular center for healing and relaxation. Today, the pool is a popular attraction for both local and foreign tourists, offering the experience of swimming among ancient ruins. The area around the pool is surrounded by other important structures of the ancient city, such as the ancient theater, necropolis, and the Martyrium of Saint Philip.
