Story
The Hierapolis Archaeology Museum was opened to visitors in 1970 after the restoration of the Roman Bath, one of the most important structures of the ancient city of Hierapolis. Located directly above the Pamukkale travertines, this museum houses rich archaeological finds from Hierapolis and other ancient cities in the surrounding area (such as Laodikeia, Colossae, and Tripolis). The museum consists of three main sections: the Hall of Sculptures and Sarcophagi, the Hall of Small Artifacts, and the Hall of Theater Finds. In the Hall of Sculptures and Sarcophagi, impressive sarcophagi, sculptures, and grave steles, especially brought from the Hierapolis Necropolis, are exhibited. These artifacts reveal the artistic and cultural richness of the Roman period. The Hall of Small Artifacts contains coin collections, ceramics, glassware, jewelry, and various everyday objects. These artifacts provide valuable information about the lifestyle and handicrafts of ancient people. The Hall of Theater Finds is filled with reliefs, sculptures, and architectural pieces unearthed from the Hierapolis Ancient Theater.
