Ben Û Sen Bastion is one of the largest and most impressive bastions of the Diyarbakır Walls, located at the southwestern corner of the city. Although its exact construction date is unknown, it is believed to date back to the Roman or Byzantine periods, consistent with the general structure of the walls. However, its current appearance is largely attributed to repairs and additions made during the Artuqid and Ottoman periods. The name of the bastion comes from a legend told among the people. According to the legend, two masters working on the construction of the bastion made a bet about its beauty and eventually named it 'Ben Û Sen', meaning 'Me and You'. Architecturally, the bastion is quite remarkable. With its high and sturdy structure, it has been an important part of the Diyarbakır Walls' defense system. It features various reliefs and inscriptions. These reliefs and inscriptions indicate the repairs and builders of the bastion during different periods. Particularly, the lion reliefs, believed to belong to the Artuqid period, add a distinct aesthetic to the bastion. The interior parts of the bastion consist of defensive rooms and passages.
