Goat Bastion is one of the most important and largest bastions of Diyarbakır Walls, located at the southwestern corner, overlooking the Tigris River. Structurally, it was built from basalt stone in accordance with the general architecture of the Diyarbakır Walls and has defied centuries with its robustness. Although there is no definitive information about when the bastion was exactly built, it is thought to belong to the Roman period, considering the general construction process of the Diyarbakır Walls. However, since the walls underwent repairs and additions in different periods, it is known that the bastion was used and strengthened by various civilizations. It underwent significant repairs, especially during the Artuqid and Ottoman periods, and was continuously maintained due to its strategic location. Goat Bastion has various legends about where it got its name; one of them is that goat skin was used in its construction, and the other is that it is associated with goats due to its steep and difficult-to-reach structure. Inside the bastion, there are large rooms and corridors thought to have been used for sheltering soldiers and for defense.
