The King's Daughter Basilica is located in the Enez district of Edirne, on the acropolis of the ancient city of Ainos. The structure dates back to the late Roman and early Byzantine periods. The basilica's name comes from a legend circulating among the people; however, this name has no historical basis. Architecturally, the basilica has a three-nave plan with an apse and a narthex. Cut stone and brick were used in the construction of the building. During excavations, mosaic remnants were found on the basilica's floor, indicating that the interior of the structure was richly decorated. The basilica reflects the importance of the region during the early Christian period and Ainos's position as a religious center. Archaeological research conducted around the structure has revealed that the region has been continuously inhabited since ancient times. The basilica has been largely destroyed over time due to earthquakes and other natural disasters. Today, its ruins can be seen, and archaeological work continues. Although it is not precisely known when the structure was abandoned or destroyed, it is believed to have lost its function with the change in the religious structure of the region during the Ottoman period.
