Story
Yemiş Kapanı Han is an important trade structure located in the center of Edirne and built during the Ottoman Empire. Although there is no clear information about the exact construction date and founder of the han, it is thought to date back to the 16th or 17th century due to its architectural features and its location on the trade routes of the period. As Edirne was an important trade and administrative center during the Ottoman period, hans played a key role in the city's economic life. Yemiş Kapanı Han, as one of these hans, was particularly used for fruit and vegetable trade, as its name suggests. The word 'Kapan' refers to places in Ottoman cities where a specific product was sold wholesale, its price was determined, and its tax was collected. In this context, it can be said that the han had an important function in Edirne's food supply chain. The han typically has a two-story structure with a courtyard and arcades. Shops and warehouses were located on the ground floors, and accommodation rooms were on the upper floors. Merchants would sell their goods here, store them in warehouses, and stay overnight during their journeys. Although Yemiş Kapanı Han has undergone various restorations over time, it has largely preserved its original architectural texture...
