Story
Hacı Ziyabey Bathhouse is an important historical structure from the Ottoman period, located in the Harput district of Elazığ. Although its exact construction date is unknown, it is thought to date back to the 17th or 18th century based on its architectural features. The bathhouse exhibits the characteristics of classical Ottoman bath architecture. Comprising cold, lukewarm, and hot sections, the structure held an important place in the social life of its era. Cut stone was used in the construction of the bathhouse, and its domed and vaulted roofing systems are noteworthy. Especially the dome in the hot section rests on elephant feet and is illuminated by small windows. The interiors of the bathhouse have a simple yet functional design. The cold section was used as a changing and resting area, the lukewarm section provided a transition to the hot section, and the hot section was reserved for washing and sweating. The water supply and heating system were designed in accordance with the technology of the period. The bathhouse served the people of Harput for many years but was damaged over time due to neglect and earthquakes.
