Story
Giresun Castle is one of the important historical structures of the Black Sea region and was built during the Byzantine period. The castle is located on a hill high above sea level, southwest of the city, and was used to defend Giresun and its surroundings. Having been under the rule of various cultures throughout history, the castle has maintained its importance in different periods thanks to its strategic location. Today, the castle offers visitors unique panoramic views of Giresun and the Black Sea. Some of the wall remains and structures in the castle are still standing, but much of the structure has deteriorated over time. In addition, archaeological studies around the castle have revealed remains from different periods. Giresun Castle is protected as an important part of the region's historical and cultural heritage and attracts the interest of domestic and foreign tourists.
