Story

Firdevs Pasha Mosque is a significant architectural monument from the Ottoman period located near the Üzüm Pazarı area in the center of Isparta. It was constructed in 1561 by Firdevs Pasha, the governor of Isparta at the time, reflecting the style associated with the master architect Mimar Sinan. The mosque features a square plan and a single dome, with a five-domed entrance porch to the north and a minaret at the northwestern corner. The foundation charter dated 1565 provides historical evidence of the mosque’s establishment and architectural intent. Although it has undergone repairs over the centuries, the mosque retains much of its original Ottoman stonework and layout. Beyond its function as a place of worship, Firdevs Pasha Mosque represents an important part of Isparta’s cultural heritage. The surrounding historical structures, including a traditional bedesten built to support the mosque’s upkeep, enrich the historic ambiance of the area. The mosque offers local and international visitors a close view of classical Ottoman mosque architecture. Features such as its courtyard, mihrab, minbar and ablution fountain exemplify traditional ecclesiastical design. For those interested in history and architectural heritage, this mosque is a key point of interest in understanding the historical evolution of Isparta.
