Description

It is a coastal village known for its sand dunes, Black Sea coastlines, and natural life.

Story

Ağaçlı Village is located on the Black Sea coast of the Arnavutköy district and is known for both its natural coastal texture and its deep historical identity. Named after the dense forest structure surrounding it, fishing, forestry, and sand quarrying have played important roles in the village's history. During the Ottoman period, the region was one of the places where Istanbul's sand needs were met, in particular. Due to the natural sand structure on the Black Sea coast, the dunes around the village were used as a strategic resource. Ağaçlı Village’s most striking feature is that it has one of Istanbul’s largest dune areas. These dunes contain rare mobile sand structures from a geological perspective. Sand formations, changing annually due to wind and wave effects, give the region a unique natural atmosphere. The village’s coastline is long, wide, and entirely natural; therefore, it is frequently preferred by campers and nature photographers. In the interior of the village, small structures reflecting traditional Black Sea architecture, old coffee houses, and traces of stone houses are still visible. Fishing is still an important part of village life. The return of fishing boats in the early morning and the silence of the coast are among Ağaçlı’s characteristic sights. Although recent large projects in the vicinity have changed the village’s structure, Ağaçlı still preserves its feature of being one of the few coastal villages in Istanbul with its natural beaches and calm atmosphere.
