Akçakese Beach

📍 İstanbul, Şile📅 Modern Turkey
Natural Area

Description

One of Şile's most pristine beaches, famous for its natural cove, fine sands, and calm atmosphere.

Story

Akçakese Beach, located east of Şile, is one of the calmest beaches that has largely preserved its natural structure. With its wide sandy beach, golden fine sands, and pine forest surroundings, it is considered one of the closest natural coastal paradises to Istanbul. The village name is thought to originate from the light-colored rocks known as 'akıntaş' that grow in the area. The beach itself is a natural cove opening to the wide Black Sea coast. While it was once a small swimming area known only to the villagers, Akçakese Beach gained popularity after Şile became better known in the 1990s. Despite this, the region has remained protected from excessive urbanization, its natural texture unspoiled, and it has managed to stay calmer than other beaches even during crowded periods. The cliffs rising on both sides of the beach both block the wind and provide natural privacy to the beach. The surrounding forested areas are ideal for those who want to hike, camp, and picnic. Although the strong waves of the Black Sea sometimes make swimming difficult, the natural beauty of the coast attracts visitors. The area also features small caves, natural cavities formed by rocks, and photo spots. Today, Akçakese Beach is one of Şile's best alternatives for those seeking a tranquil sea experience intertwined with nature.
