Description

It is a coastal village located at the Black Sea entrance of the Bosphorus, known for its fishing culture and historical texture.

Story

Anadolu Kavağı is one of Istanbul's oldest coastal settlements and has played an important role throughout history as a fishing village, a military control point, and a trade route. During the Byzantine period, the area, along with Yoros Castle, was one of the strategic lines protecting the northern entrance of the Bosphorus. In the Ottoman period, it became both a stop for ships sailing to the Black Sea and an important coastal settlement on the Bosphorus shore. The village's streets, old wooden houses, and seafood restaurants along the coastline have long formed the characteristic image of Anadolu Kavağı. In the 19th century, steamboat services began to the region, and Istanbul residents started coming here on weekends to eat fish and enjoy the sea air. Today, the fish restaurants, tea gardens, and boathouses lined up along the village's coast keep the area lively. One of the elements that makes Anadolu Kavağı special is its location, where you can feel the strong winds of the Black Sea, and its ability to maintain a calmer, village atmosphere compared to the center of Istanbul. In the past, local fishermen would observe storms coming from the Black Sea and report them to the ports in Istanbul. For this reason, the village also functioned as a natural observation point. Although Yoros Castle is the most visited place in the village, Anadolu Kavağı's coastline offers a unique experience with its wind, seagull sounds, and sea smell. It is one of the nostalgic stops preferred by those who want to escape the city's chaos and spend time by the sea.
