Story

Atatürk City Forest is one of Istanbul's most modern and largest urban forests. Located in the middle of the Maslak, Darüşşafaka, and Hacıosman areas, this enormous forest land remained a closed and unused area for years before being opened to public use with extensive landscaping. Thanks to the work completed in the 2020s, the forest has become a contemporary recreation center with walking, running, cycling, pond tours, observation terraces, and resting areas. The history of the region is actually connected to the Belgrade Forest ecosystem. These areas were historically part of the Ottoman hunting grounds, and during the Republic era, they were considered a protected area among the city's northern forests. However, for a long time, it was not open to the public due to military and institutional use. With the city forest project, the area has been transformed back into a natural living focus, and its original flora has been preserved and strengthened. Within the forest, special landscaping arrangements have been made, including large ponds, reed beds, and walking trails. Wooden walking bridges, viewpoints, and wide grassy areas are frequently preferred by families. In the early morning hours, a layer of fog can be seen within the forest; these hours are particularly enchanting for photographers and athletes. Today, Atatürk City Forest holds great value as one of Istanbul's largest natural areas where one can breathe within the city.
