Description

Çubuklu is a Bosphorus district famous for its coastline, old settlement texture adjacent to mansions, and natural areas.

Story

Çubuklu is one of the most established settlements on the Istanbul Bosphorus, with its history dating back to the Byzantine period. During the Ottoman era, due to the mansions, groves, and waterfront houses along the coast, the area became one of the most important stops for aristocratic life. It is believed that Çubuklu gets its name from the long, straight, stick-shaped tree trunks that grew in the region. Since these trees were used in making oar paddles during the Ottoman period, the area was known as an important timber center. The Çubuklu coastal region became a place where summer mansions and the residences of statesmen were concentrated in the 19th century. The Khedive Pavilion and its grove are among the most prominent historical structures of this district. Additionally, the forested area behind Çubuklu was used as a hunting ground during the Ottoman period. In the Republican era, the coastline was opened to the public; tea gardens, fishing boats, and small piers shaped the social life of the district. Today, Çubuklu's coastline is one of the most preferred spots for morning walks, bike tours, and those who want to watch the sunset. The fact that the district is also an important transit route between Beykoz and Üsküdar, and its pier has been actively used for many years, keeps the area vibrant. Çubuklu is one of the most peaceful districts of the Bosphorus, with its historical and natural texture, as well as its neighborhood culture.
