Story

Reşadiye is an old Ottoman village located in the north of Çekmeköy, which has managed to preserve its natural and historical texture despite Istanbul's modernization process. The village's history dates back to the 19th century; it is believed to have taken its name from the period of Sultan Reşad. Traditional production methods such as agriculture, animal husbandry, and forest work have played an important role in Reşadiye's history. The village is surrounded by dense forests, and for this reason, it has been one of the symbolic settlements representing Istanbul's rural character for many years. One of Reşadiye's prominent features is its traditional wooden houses that are still standing. The stone-foundation, wooden-upper-floor structures lined along narrow streets are typical examples of Ottoman rural architecture. The villagers have maintained their traditional way of life for many years; especially religious holidays, village festivals, collective work (imece), and natural farming activities have been the cornerstones of Reşadiye culture. The village's surroundings form one of the most ideal routes for nature walks. Trails extending through the forest, small stream beds, and diverse bird species create a great attraction for nature lovers. Reşadiye is also a frequently visited spot by photographers due to its proximity to Istanbul. Today, the village continues to preserve both its historical texture and its natural environment and is known as one of the most authentic settlements in the Çekmeköy region.
