Story
Sahilköy is a charming coastal village located on the Black Sea coast, east of Şile, largely preserving its natural structure. Although its history dates back to the Ottoman period, the region's past extends to pre-Byzantine coastal settlements. The village has sustained itself through fishing, agriculture, and small-scale trade for centuries. One of Sahilköy's most prominent features is that, despite its proximity to Istanbul, it still possesses unspoiled nature and a village atmosphere. The coastal part of the village consists of a long, wide, and natural beach. The waves of the Black Sea have created a special sand texture, with a fine sandy surface in one part of the beach and a more sandstone-mixed surface in another. Therefore, Sahilköy Beach offers a rich area for both walking and photography. The surrounding pine forests enhance the village's natural scenery and create ideal areas for campers. Sahilköy has been a settlement that has managed to stay away from Istanbul's busy tourist areas for many years. Known only by local residents and people from surrounding villages until the 2000s, this beach has started to attract more attention in recent years due to the influence of social media. Despite this, the village has managed to stay away from excessive commercial development. In the inland parts of the village, there are old wooden houses, small neighborhood squares, and traditional village coffeehouses. Sahilköy is also a getaway destination for visitors seeking nature walks, camping, fishing, and a peaceful beach experience.
