Story

Yuşa Hill is one of the points offering the widest view of the Istanbul Bosphorus, as well as a sacred place of high spiritual value. The long grave structure on the hill is widely accepted as the tomb of Prophet Yuşa (Joshua). It is believed that Yuşa was a prophet who lived with Prophet Moses, and for this reason, the site has maintained its importance as a place of visit and prayer for centuries. The length of the structure in the grave reaches 17 meters; this long grave is an example of the symbolic tomb concept dedicated to great prophets in Islamic geography. Ottoman archives state that the region has been continuously protected since the era of Fatih Sultan Mehmed, with dervish lodges and places of worship built around it. In 1755, a small complex consisting of a mosque, tomb, and dervish cells was built by Şehsuvar Sultan, the mother of Osman III. In the 19th century, the area was reorganized, and the surroundings of the hill were made suitable for worship. Another feature of Yuşa Hill is its magnificent natural location. Overlooking the Bosphorus entrance, the line opening to the Black Sea, and Anadolu Kavağı from above, this point had strategic importance for both defense and observation during the Byzantine and Ottoman periods. Evliya Çelebi mentions the holiness of the hill and the peace found there in his Seyahatnâme (Book of Travels). Today, Yuşa Hill is one of Istanbul's most special stops, with its spiritual atmosphere, natural scenery, and visiting traditions.
