Description

A large wildlife park that meets European standards, without cages, where animals live in conditions close to their natural habitats.

Story

Izmir Wildlife Park was established by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality in 2008 in Sasalı, within the borders of Çiğli district. It is a redesigned version of the previous traditional zoo in Kültürpark, adopting a modern, environmentally friendly approach that prioritizes animal welfare. Spanning an enormous area of approximately 425 acres, the park was designed by taking leading European wildlife parks as a model. The most important feature of this park is that animals live in large open spaces and enclosures that mimic their natural habitats, instead of cages. Thus, glass, moats, or natural barriers are used between visitors and animals. The park hosts hundreds of different species of animals from all over the world; elephants, giraffes, lions, Bengal tigers, and various bird and reptile species are among its most prominent inhabitants. The park's design allows visitors to observe animals from different geographies by taking long walks. Furthermore, the park undertakes important missions in the conservation and propagation of endangered species. Emphasizing education and awareness activities, the park serves as a center for learning about nature and biodiversity, especially for children and young people. Izmir Wildlife Park is a modern facility that demonstrates Izmir's commitment not only to urban infrastructure but also to environmental and animal rights during its modernization process. Its location on the northern side of the city, close to the sea, offers visitors a pleasant day out with its clean air and vast geography. The park is one of Izmir's most popular social and educational centers for families and nature lovers.
