Story

Sığacık, connected to Seferihisar district of İzmir, is located by the sea and is the most striking part of Seferihisar, which holds the title of Turkey's first 'Slow City' (Cittaslow). The heart of Sığacık is **Kale İçi** (Castle Interior), built in the 16th century by the Ottomans to protect the harbor and defend against attacks from the Aegean Islands. The castle was rebuilt during the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent (with the suggestion of Piri Reis) on the foundations of a structure left by the Knights of Rhodes. Kale İçi is famous for its narrow streets, two-story historical stone houses with brightly painted facades, and its organic structure nestled within the castle walls. Life here maintains the traditional Aegean village and town culture. The local producers' market established within the castle supports the region's agricultural richness and 'slow food' philosophy. Local women selling their handmade products in front of their houses add an authentic and sincere atmosphere to Sığacık. Sığacık Marina, located right next to Kale İçi, combines modern yachting with historical texture. While the marina increases the region's potential for sea tourism, Kale İçi preserves its cultural and historical identity.
