Description

A small island located in Izmir Bay, off the coasts of Urla and Menderes, used for daily excursions and beach tourism.

Story

Yassıcaada (also known as 'Laz Koyu' among Izmir's seafarers) is a small but popular island located in the middle of Izmir Bay, south of the Urla Peninsula. The most important feature distinguishing this island from the previously listed Historical Quarantine Island is that it is not used for military or quarantine purposes, but rather for **entirely recreational and social** purposes. Yassıcaada, which can be reached by daily ferry services organized by Izmir Metropolitan Municipality during summer months, is a short escape point for the city's residents with its natural beaches, clean sea, and green nature. Besides basic facilities like showers, toilets, and a cafeteria, there is no large construction that would harm the natural texture of the island. In this respect, it is an important part of Izmir's sea tourism and social life. Yassıcaada shows that Izmir's geographical richness is not only limited to its coastline, but also creates a natural attraction with its islands and small coves within the bay. It is an important maritime stop easily accessible from the city center, reflecting social life.
