Dulkadirli Underground City
Description
Located near Kırşehir city center, Dulkadirli Underground City is a multi-chamber underground settlement dated to the Roman–Byzantine period.
Story
Dulkadirli Underground City is located near the village of Dulkadirli (İnlimurat) in Kırşehir’s central district and represents one of the significant defensive underground settlements of the region. It features narrow corridors, passage tunnels, living rooms, storage areas and animal shelters, forming a multi-chamber layout. The narrow and controlled entrances indicate that the site was used as a refuge and shelter during periods of threat. Dated to the Roman and Byzantine periods, the stone-carving traces and structural remains reflect the architectural characteristics of these eras. The site provides important archaeological evidence regarding rural defense networks and settlement culture in Central Anatolia. Today, it is open to controlled visits in order to preserve its historical structure.
