Throughout the Middle Ages, it played a strategic role within regional defense systems, particularly during the period of Anatolian beyliks and the Mamluks. Its mountainous surroundings and control over key routes made it militarily significant. Built with cut stone and rubble masonry, the fortress reflects typical medieval military architecture. Walls, towers, and observation points were designed to oversee surrounding valleys and passages. Although largely ruined today, the remaining structures provide insight into its former defensive strength.
