Description
It is a historic bazaar located in the Onikişubat district of Kahramanmaraş.
Story
The Historic Maraş Bazaar is a traditional commercial district that preserves the craft culture, social life, and urban identity of Kahramanmaraş. Composed of the Coppersmiths’ Quarter, Saraçhane, and surrounding craft streets, the bazaar reflects the traces of the Ottoman guild system, where production and trade were organized around master–apprentice workshops. The sound of hammering metal, hand-crafted copper vessels, leatherwork, saddlery, and other traditional trades transform this space from a simple marketplace into a living center of cultural production. Visitors can observe artisans working in their workshops, engage directly with local craftsmen, and experience a continuity of skills that have been passed down through generations. Narrow streets, stone façades, and wooden shop fronts create an urban atmosphere deeply connected to the city’s historical neighborhoods. The bazaar is not only a place of commerce, but also a social setting where craftsmanship, memory, and everyday culture remain alive — an essential point of entry for understanding the historical identity of Kahramanmaraş.
