Description
It is an area located in the Onikişubat district of Kahramanmaraş.
Story
Taşhan is a historic caravanserai located in the old urban center of Kahramanmaraş and represents one of the characteristic examples of inns that once served travelers and merchants along regional trade routes. Built in the Ottoman period with carefully cut stone masonry, the structure follows a two-storey plan organized around a central courtyard. Arcaded galleries open to storage and commercial spaces on the ground floor, while the upper floor was designed for accommodation, reflecting an architectural typology where trade, logistics, and social life coexisted within the same complex. Throughout its history, Taşhan functioned not only as a lodging facility but also as a cultural meeting point that connected merchants from different regions and supported economic circulation within the city. Today, following restoration works, the building has been revitalized as a cultural and touristic venue hosting small shops, handicrafts, and local souvenir production, while preserving its historical identity. The courtyard provides a quiet open space where visitors can experience the authentic architectural setting and the atmosphere of historical urban life. Taşhan stands as a meaningful element of Kahramanmaraş’s commercial heritage and urban memory, linking the city’s past with its contemporary public life.
