Kayseri Archaeology Museum is an important cultural center showcasing archaeological artifacts from various civilizations, revealing the rich history of the city.

Story

Kayseri Archaeology Museum is an important cultural stop that sheds light on the deep-rooted history of Anatolia. Located on Kışla Street in the city center, the museum building was originally constructed as an Armenian School in the late 19th century, later serving for many years as an annex building of the Faculty of Medicine affiliated with Erciyes University. Its restoration and conversion into a museum in 1998 gives it historical value in itself. The museum's collection consists of invaluable artifacts from archaeological excavations in and around Kayseri, spanning a wide period from prehistoric times to the Byzantine Era. Especially the findings from the Kültepe-Kanesh Mound excavations constitute the most striking section of the museum. These artifacts from the Assyrian Trade Colonies Age (early 2nd millennium BC) include cuneiform clay tablets, seals, ceramics, and metal objects, which are the first written documents of Anatolia. These tablets offer unique information about the social, economic, and commercial structure of the period, playing a critical role in illuminating Anatolian history. The museum also exhibits sculptures, sarcophagi, mosaics, coins, and daily life objects from the Hittite, Phrygian, Urartian, Roman, and Byzantine periods. The artifacts are arranged chronologically and in thematic halls, presenting Kayseri's rich cultural heritage from ancient times to the present in an interactive and understandable manner to visitors. The museum not only offers visitors a journey into the past but also reveals the cultural diversity brought by Kayseri's strategic location and its host to various civilizations. Visitors can experience the thousands of years of Anatolian adventure by discovering the stories behind each artifact. Kayseri Archaeology Museum is a must-see, informative, and thought-provoking stop for history and culture enthusiasts of the city.
