Rising within the historical fabric of Kayseri's Melikgazi district, Kurşunlu Mosque is an important and elegant example of classical Ottoman architecture, built by Mimar Sinan, the greatest architect of the Ottoman Empire, between 1585 and 1586. The mosque was commissioned by Hacı Ahmet Pasha, the then Sanjak Bey of Kayseri, and takes its name from its lead-covered dome ("kurşunlu" meaning "leaded"). This feature not only gives the structure an aesthetic appearance but also reflects the advanced construction techniques of its era. Kurşunlu Mosque stands out with its central-domed plan. The single-domed prayer hall (harim) is covered by the main dome, which rests on four elephant feet. Smaller domes and vaults support the spaces on the sides. The interior of the mosque has a simple yet impressive beauty. The mihrab, minbar, and preacher's pulpit display fine examples of the stone craftsmanship and pen work decorations of the period.
