Story
Softa Castle is a strategic defensive structure located on a hill overlooking the Mediterranean in the Bozyazı district of Mersin. Its origins date back to the Late Roman period and it continued to be used during the Byzantine, Seljuk, Karamanid and Ottoman periods. The remains of its oval fortification walls, interior cisterns, structural foundations and traces of a small settlement suggest that the site functioned as a garrison and watchpoint for many centuries. Archaeological traces such as bath and tomb remains have also been identified around the castle. Although partly ruined today, its location offers wide panoramic views over the sea and Bozyazı plain, making it an important historical and cultural landmark as well as a popular trekking destination.
