Beçin Ancient City, located in the town of Beçin, part of Muğla's Milas district, is an important archaeological site that has hosted various civilizations throughout history. While the first traces of settlement date back to the 2nd millennium BC, Beçin's golden age was during the Menteşeoğulları Beylik period. In the 14th century, Beçin became the capital of the Menteşeoğulları and transformed into an important center of trade and culture. Mosques, madrasahs, hammams, caravanserais, and mansions built during the Beylik period are among the important structures that have survived to this day. Especially the Orhan Bey Mosque, Ahmet Gazi Madrasah, and Kızılhan are valuable works reflecting the architectural features of the period. Beçin maintained its importance even after coming under the rule of the Ottoman Empire, but over time, it lost its former vitality and was abandoned. Today, Beçin, protected as an ancient site, reveals traces of the past through archaeological excavations. Ceramics, coins, and other finds unearthed during excavations shed light on the rich history of the region.
