Cadianda Ancient City is situated on a hill approximately 900 meters high, near the Üzümlü neighborhood of Fethiye district in Muğla. The city's name is mentioned as 'Kadawanti' in the Lycian language, and it is believed to mean 'shining city' or 'sunny city'. Although the first traces of settlement date back to the 4th century BC, the city experienced its most prosperous period during the Roman Empire. Cadianda was one of the member cities of the Lycian League and was considered one of the league's important centers. The strategic location of the city offered a commanding view of the surrounding valleys and the sea, making it of great importance for defense. As a result of excavations, many structures such as a theater, agora, stadium, baths, temple, and necropolis have been unearthed. Especially the well-preserved theater reveals the vibrancy of the city's social and cultural life.
