Kedrai, one of the important cities of the Carian region in ancient times, experienced great prosperity, especially during the Hellenistic and Roman periods. The most well-known feature of the island is its unique sandy beach, also known as Cleopatra Beach. The legend is widespread that these sands were specially brought for the Egyptian Queen Cleopatra and are found only on Sedir Island. However, scientific research shows that the sand actually originates from the island's geological structure. In the ancient city, a theater, agora, the remains of the Temple of Apollo, a necropolis, and various civil structures can be seen. The theater, built on the northeastern tip of the island overlooking the sea, had a capacity of approximately 2500 people. The agora is located southwest of the theater and was the center of trade and social life. Only the foundation remains of the Temple of Apollo have survived to the present day. Kedrai was a city-state dependent on Rhodes and played an important role in Rhodes' naval power.
