Description

A natural crater lake located in Varto district of Muş, adjacent to Great Hamurpet Lake.

Story

Little Hamurpet Lake is one of the twin crater lakes located on the foothills of Akdoğan Mountains in the Varto district of Muş, together with Great Hamurpet Lake. This high-altitude landscape combines the cool climate of Eastern Anatolia with minimalistic mountain scenery. As its name suggests, Little Hamurpet is smaller in surface area, yet it offers nature enthusiasts an authentic and tranquil setting with its surrounding vegetation, seasonal colors and wildlife. During spring and summer, the lake and its surroundings are preferred by campers, photographers and hikers. The altitude keeps the air pleasantly cool even in the warmest months. Various waterfowl and species adapted to mountain ecosystems can be observed around the lake. The absence of dense construction or commercial facilities along the shore has helped preserve its natural character. Considered together with Great Hamurpet Lake, this spot is one of the key indicators of the nature-tourism potential of Varto and its surroundings. For visitors who want to discover the lesser-known natural riches of Muş, Little Hamurpet Lake offers a peaceful and distinctive experience that justifies the distance from the city center.
