Spanning an area of approximately 360,000 square meters, this colossal ancient city has been determined through in-depth research to possess a rich history extending back to the Roman and Byzantine periods. Archaeological findings in the initial layers indicate that settlement in the region dates back to 1200 BC, the Phrygian period, proving Kayaşehir's importance in reshaping the known history of the region. Kayaşehir is more than just an underground city; it is a multi-layered settlement containing living quarters, churches, kitchens, workshops, water channels, animal shelters, and a complex network of tunnels.
