Discovered by chance by a shepherd in 1995, this ancient city is an important heritage that sheds light on the region's history. Mazı, carved into volcanic tuff rocks, bears strong traces of its use as a refuge and living space by early Christians fleeing Roman persecution in the 3rd and 4th centuries AD. Over time, it also became a defensive point against Arab raids. Consisting of four main entrances, the city offers visitors a labyrinthine experience. The narrow passages, living areas, stables, food storage rooms, churches, and wineries within the city provide glimpses into the daily lives of the people of that era. Particularly noteworthy are the massive rolling stone doors, engineering marvels that protected the underground city from external threats.
