Story

The Three Beauties Fairy Chimneys are located in Ürgüp district of Nevşehir, in the heart of the Cappadocia region, which is one of Turkey's geographical and cultural treasures. These unique natural formations have become a symbol of Cappadocia and offer one of its most iconic and globally recognized landscapes. Their formation is the result of complex geological processes spanning millions of years. Approximately 10 to 15 million years ago, active volcanoes in Central Anatolia (Mount Erciyes, Mount Hasan, and Mount Melendiz) spread soft volcanic ash, known as tufa, and lava over vast areas. Over time, these tufa layers solidified and were capped by harder basalt or andesite layers. For millions of years, wind, rain, and streams eroded the softer tufa layers, while protecting the harder basalt caps above. This differential erosion resistance led to the formation of fairy chimneys with conical or columnar bases and capped tops. The Three Beauties are particularly notable for their three distinct fairy chimney formations standing side by side, one large and two smaller ones, hence their name "Three Beauties". This natural sculpture ensemble offers a captivating visual feast, especially at sunset when it meets the red hues of the sun, making it an indispensable spot for photography enthusiasts. As part of Göreme National Park and the Rock Sites of Cappadocia, which are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List, the Three Beauties are also an important element of this unique heritage that must be preserved. Visitors can observe this natural beauty up close from the viewing terraces surrounding the Three Beauties and learn about the general geological structure and formation of Cappadocia. Along with other fairy chimneys and underground cities in the region, the Three Beauties are an integral part of the Cappadocia experience, offering visitors both the power of nature and the artistry of time. These natural monuments serve as living lessons, revealing the region's unique geographical features and millions of years of evolution.
