Located approximately 10 kilometers south of Fatsa district, nestled like an emerald among hazelnut gardens and lush green hills, Gaga Lake is one of the Black Sea's most characteristic and peaceful landslide barrier lakes. This natural wonder covering an area of approximately 60 acres was formed as a result of a landslide blocking the valley front and has developed its own unique ecosystem over thousands of years. One of the lake's most fascinating features is the depth of its water and the density of the vegetation around it. The tiny tree-covered islet located in the middle of the lake, known as 'Little Island' by local people, adds a fairy-tale depth to the landscape. Gaga Lake is not just a body of water, but also a vital sanctuary for the region's wildlife and especially migratory birds. While walking on the lake's shore, the soothing atmosphere created by the hanging willow branches and reeds welcomes you. The lake's color varies from navy blue to dark green depending on the seasons and the angle of light. Gaga Lake, protected as a first-degree natural site, hosts hundreds of species of endemic plants around it due to the Black Sea's humid climate effect. It is rumored that there are remains of civilizations that once lived here in the lake's depths; according to some local legends, it is even said that there is an old church under the lake. This mysterious air takes the lake beyond being just a nature visit point and carries it to an intriguing historical depth. For visitors, Gaga Lake is a peace stop that must be made on the Fatsa-Aybastı road. The walking trail and viewing areas created with arrangements made around the lake offer the opportunity to experience this beauty without destroying nature. • You can closely observe the local agricultural culture and regional architecture by taking short walks among the hazelnut gardens around the lake.
• The wooden piers on the lake shore are the best spot for photography; however, care should be taken when walking as the ground may be damp.
• Since it is a natural site, lighting fires around the lake is strictly prohibited; shape your picnic plan according to this rule.
