Hazindak Plateau
Description
It is an area in the Çamlıhemşin district of Rize, known for its natural beauty.
Story
Hazindak Plateau, located above Pokut and Sal plateaus at approximately 1900-2000 meters elevation, is one of the Black Sea's most aesthetic and peaceful obas. Hazindak is especially known for its plateau houses containing the most refined examples of stone and wood craftsmanship in the region. These houses, arranged like pearls on a slope, appear as if they were part of nature itself. The most important feature that distinguishes Hazindak from other plateaus is that deep tranquility it has gained thanks to the difficulty of its access. This plateau, reached by a challenging but magnificently scenic forest walk usually from Pokut Plateau, is a hidden paradise that mass tourism has not yet spoiled, discoverable only by true nature enthusiasts. The plateau's most enchanting moments are when the fog rising from the valley fills between the houses and covers everything like white tulle. Waking up above the sea of clouds in the mornings at Hazindak gives visitors a feeling of complete isolation from the world. The plateau architecture reflects Hemşin culture's aesthetic understanding; the houses' windows are usually designed to face the valley. When looking from these windows, the peaks of the Kaçkars and the deep green forests below are visible in all their majesty. Hazindak is also the intersection point of old plateau roads and trails; these roads were once the main route of plateau dwellers carrying loads with mules. Today, these trails have become one of the world's most beautiful trekking routes for nature walkers. For visitors, Hazindak is a retreat point where time stops and only the sound of wind is heard. The local flavors served on the plateau, especially breakfasts made with plateau cheese and butter, are the purest gastronomic experience that can be tasted at this elevation. The cows grazing on Hazindak's steep slopes and the scent of flowers give deep tranquility to the human soul. This is a very special point representing nature's patience and simplicity against the speed of modern life. Visiting Hazindak Plateau is not just traveling a geography, but feeling that silent and dignified rhythm beating in the heart of the Black Sea. This plateau, which holds a story in every corner, also hosts the most beautiful plays of light and fog for photographers.
Visit Tips
- The most enjoyable way to reach Hazindak is the approximately 1.5-2 hour forest trail starting from Pokut Plateau; make sure you're in condition suitable for hiking.
- Since accommodation facilities on the plateau are very limited and boutique, you must make reservations months in advance before going.
- During the walk, be careful to walk in groups and make noise against the possibility of encountering wild animals (bear, boar, etc.).
- Hazindak's houses are very aesthetic, but be careful not to enter their gardens without the owners' permission when approaching the buildings.
