Çamlıköy Nature Park (Kastro)
Description
Çamlıköy Nature Park is a protected area in Saray where forest, sea and dune ecosystems coexist.
Story
Çamlıköy Nature Park, widely known as Kastro, is located on the Black Sea coast in the Saray district of Tekirdağ and stands out as a significant protected landscape. Its long sandy shoreline, pine forests and river valley form a rare natural environment where sea, forest and dune ecosystems meet in the same area. Shaped by wind and marine influences, the dune fields along the coast serve as an important habitat for local plant and bird species. Walking through the park, visitors encounter forest trails, sea-view lookout points and a stream corridor that flows toward the shore, offering a continuous transition between different natural landscapes. The area also bears traces of historical settlement. Çamlıköy and its surroundings hosted coastal activity during the Roman and Byzantine periods, and fragmented remains of small structures and water-related installations are known to have existed along the shoreline. Although only limited traces survive today, they indicate that the area functioned as a coastal stop and passage route throughout antiquity. Today, Kastro is a popular escape for those seeking a tranquil natural setting for camping, photography and coastal walks. Due to its protection status, development in the park is minimal and the natural character of the landscape has largely been preserved. With its quiet atmosphere, sound of waves and shaded pine groves, Çamlıköy Nature Park stands as one of Tekirdağ’s most distinctive nature destinations.
