Story

Lake Van is located in Eastern Anatolia as Turkey's largest soda lake. Covering approximately 3,755 km², it is the country's largest freshwater lake. Its soda-rich composition hosts many plant and animal species. One of the most famous species in the lake is the Van Fish (Kurdistan Salmon), which only lives in this lake and can be observed during spawning season near the outlet points. The surroundings of Lake Van are rich with natural beauty and historical ruins. The lake stimulates tourism in the region, attracting both local and international visitors during the summer. Many small villages and towns along the lake sustain their economies through fishing and other water resources. Additionally, Akdamar Island in the northwest of the lake, with its historic Akdamar Church, is a significant spot for visitors. Its natural structure and ecosystem are protected.
